What is a Suction Excavator?

By Administrator | Uncategorized

A Suction Excavator is a heavy-duty vacuum truck and there are two types of suction excavators:

  1. Suction Excavator – Fan vacuum technology

Fan based suction excavators are designed as construction vehicles and using special suction fans that create large air flow to transport material. The fans on these suction excavators can have very large airflows up to 44,000 m³/h. They are ideal suite for construction and planet Earth moving bases service, and are ideal for removal of surface material were you cannot use a traditional excavator for safety reasons. If you need to access electrical cables or gas mains a fan based suction is the most suitable option.

2. Suction Excavator – Pneumatic vacuum technology

The operation of a dry and wet substances vacuum truck is based on the movement of substances due to the movement of air or pneumatic transport. This type of suction excavator is often known as a wet & dry vacuum truck, air movement truck, industrial vacuum loader or as a super sucker in the US market. The vacuum tank is placed under negative pressure by the large amount of air displacement created by the 8,000 or 9,000 m³/hvacuum pump. The vacuumed material does not go to the vacuum pump and, only the vapours and dust particles can enter the vacuum pump,  allowing the machine vacuum / suck dry or wet material. The filtration system can be a cyclone system or a bag based system and both system will trap any final duct or product.

This type of suction excavator (industrial vacuum tanker) is designed for heavy industrial and tank cleaning applications and is suitable for suctioning, displacing, transporting and discharging dry, wet and hazardous material, such as dust, catalyst, powders, ash, oil, organic waste and sludge. The machine is specially developed for working with hazardous area of cleaning hard to reach areas.

At Ormonde we provide suction excavator services for industrial cleaning and tank cleaning service and for this reason we offer only this industrial version of suction excavators.

Why would I use a suction excavator ?

  1. Suction Excavator – Fan vacuum technology

This type of suction excavator is ideal if you need to make excavation work (for example if you are digging around electrical cables). The machine is very effective at moving material like clay or dirt that is beside the machine. The machine is not suitable for suction at short or long distances.

  • Suction Excavator – Pneumatic vacuum technology

This type of industrial suction excavator is ideal for a wide range of industrial cleaning and tank cleaning operations. It has the added advantage of being able to handle wet and dry material at longer distances and larger depths due to the pneumatic vacuum technology. Also the pressurised tank allows working with hazardous material and sludges and have the option of pressure discharge.

What is the correct name for this type of vacuum technology?

There is no specific term or name for dry & wet vacuum vehicles and it varies from country to country.  For example in America they use the term Super Sucker or Industrial Vacuum loader, in Ireland and the UK they use the name Dry Vac or Disab after the producer of this technology, in Germany they use Sauggger, Luftförderanlage,  Vakuumanlage or Saugwagen, in Czech Republic they use the name Saci Bagr or sacího bagru, In Poland they use the names Koparka Ssąca, ładowarka próżniowa or ładowarka ssąca, in Russian the most commonly use term is Илососная машина, in Slovakia they use Sacie Bagre, and in Hungarian they use Szivó-kotrogép and in Croatia they use the terms Saugbagger or Usisni Bage. We believe the best terms for such technology is industrial vacuum loader or suction excavator.

Why use Ormonde Suction Excavator ?
