Why do I need to clean a heat exchanger?

By Administrator | Uncategorized

Heat Exchangers are used to increase heat transfer from one liquid to another liquid. Fouling will reduce your heat exchangers performance and as a results in extra operating and energy costs to compensate for losses in the target temperature. Correct cleaning a of heat exchangers is therefore important to keep systems running efficiently. The cost of cleaning a heat exchanger is small compared to the cost of lost production when a heat exchanger is underperforming or if require an unscheduled shutdown.

What is Fouling ?

Fouling is a product like water stone, chemical or production deposits on heat-transfer surfaces which will reduce the heat exchanger, heat-transfer capacity. Heat exchanger fouling, or the unwanted build-up of deposits on heat-transfer surfaces, can result in several costs:

  • Production loss
  • Unplanned shutdowns
  • Higher energy costs
  • Higher cleaning costs
  • Replacement of technology

How often should I clean my heat exchanger ?

Minimum requirement is to inspect your heat exchanger once per year, and in more heat industries that can me once per month. Regularly cleaning heat exchangers to prevent fouling will save you money in energy costs and higher production output. Every production process is different and in order to get more details it is best to talk with one of our experts. At Ormonde we have vast experience in a wide range of plate heat exchanger, tube heat exchanger and cooling systems.

How do I clean my heat exchanger ?

Every production and cooling technology is different and for this cleaning reason there are a number of methods:

  1. Cleaning with high pressure water
  2. Cleaning using chemicals
  3. Cleaning by machinal systems such drilling, of darts method

At Ormonde we can offer you cleaning using high pressure water, chemical and machinal methods. Give our vast experience and the knowledge that a higher quality cleaned heat exchanger will save you money we recommend cleaning by robotic high pressure water jetting or chemical cleaning as manual methods are unable to fully clean the surface and will not offer the same results.
